It was 11:30 in the morning of December 23, 2006 when we met with Pham Xuan Loc, Director of Duc Huy Digital Photo Studio. He proudly handed me a shiny and beautiful album containing our photos. In addition, Mr. Loc also gave us two bonuses: Our pictures in two big posters.

We spent the next hour talking at length about his business. Duc Huy Digital Photo Studio was established since Christmas 2000. It is one of the first modernized studios applying digital techniques in Vietnam.

Prior to that, it was a professional photo studio with customers from different countries. Pham Xuan Loc has changed from using classical methods to advanced digital techniques to create better and more attractive pictures. Words get around. More and more clients line up to see him.

With twenty five years of professional experiences in photography, Mr. Loc has managed Duc Huy Studio with strict guidelines: Using digital techniques to create better pictures and the photos must look like ourselves, not to alter the images. The studio team is responsible for makeup and clothing. Then Director Pham Xuan Loc starts the job with instructions: Look up, look down, smile, sit down…A creator and master of design, Mr. Loc has made pictures more charming and sensational bearing excellent technology.

Pham Xuan Loc was born in Bao Loc, Lam Dong, South Vietnam in 1960. His parents are from Ha Nam Ninh, North Vietnam. At the age of 14, he was selected to attend the first photography course teaching at Vietnamese American Association in Saigon since June 1974 until April 30, 1975. He had extensive practice and training with military photographers of South Vietnamese Armed Forces during that period.

In 1974, seeing his love for photos, his uncle, Catholic Father Pham Ngoc Lan, Principal of Le Bao Tinh School in Ban Me Thuot, gave him a camera and he still keeps it.

In 1980, Mr. Loc began to take pictures for living. It was a very tough time. As for the years 1981 – 1982, it took 2 months to deliver wedding pictures. In 1998, his brother Pham Tri Duc opened a photo studio at 66B Nguyen Hue, Saigon. It was one of the first portrait studio with different varieties, for example raised photos on calendars.

In retrospect, overcoming difficulties and aiming for A1 photos have been his earnest desire.
