     The 10th  Anniversary  of The General  Association  For The Development of World Martial Arts (GADWMA) was celebrated on Sunday night  October 19, 2003 at Paracel Seafood Restaurant in the city of Westminster.  The friendly and dynamic ceremony was planned to glorify Professors, Supreme Grand Masters, and Masters  who have practiced Martial Arts for over fifty years.  In addition, selected students who obtained Martial Arts International Tournament prizes and have an average of 3.8 points in school are also awarded.

 

     Over five hundred guests included US Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, Councilman Frank Fry, Representatives of State Senator Joe Dunn, US Congressman Ed Royce, Federal, State, and local officials, associations, news media…are there to share the joy and pride of the distinguished individuals.

 

     Organization Chairman, Professor Ha Huyen Thanh, thanks all who have earnestly supported the GADWMA.  In 1998, during the Annual Anniversary of Kienando, he told me his dream was to unite all martial arts branches.  I think, somehow, tonight, his ambition has been achieved.  In addition, Professor Thanh especially expressed deep gratitude to Scholar Mat Nghiem Dang Nguyen Pha, Publisher of Saigon Post, who has helped GADWMA profoundly by informing readers of martial arts events.

 

     MC Kim Yen graciously introduced The President of GADWMA:  Master Ly Hoang Tung and other members of the Association:  Pham Cong Huyen, Mai Viet Hung, Tran Ngoc Kinh, Truong Van Hai, Nguyen Thien Ly, Le Trong Ngung, Kieu Cong Lang, Van Cong Dinh, Tu Vo Hanh, Phi Long Son, Phan Diep and Dinh Ngoc Dao.

Three tables are reserved for Kienando.  However, Professor Nguyen Lam, the Supreme Grand Master of Kienando was invited to sit together with the Grand Masters who were honored, therefore, even he wished to sit with his loved ones, he could not be able to do so.  There are familiar faces of Kienando associates:  Scholar Mat Nghiem Dang Nguyen Pha, Researcher Phung Nghi, former South Vietnamese Congressman Nguyen Ly Tuong, ARVN Air Force Colonel An Van Nhat, former Chairman of Vietnamese Association in San Fernando Valley Dinh Van Ngoc, Professor Tran Tue, Director Nguyen Ngoc Minh, Doctor Do Van Hoc – Publisher of Thang Mo, Nguyen Kinh Doanh, Master Hong Ngoc Dai Nghia, Master Tran Phuong, Frank Swensen, Ly Khoa, Ngo Tai, Manh Bao, Anthony Ly, Lynelle Miliate, Theolius McCane…

 

     Researcher Phung Nghi cordially gave me and Professor Nguyen Lam the writing collection  TRO DOI  encompassed articles of Scholar Dang Nguyen Pha, Grand Master Quan Van Trong, Commentator Nguyen Huu, Nguyen Kinh Doanh…published in Saigon Post.  We are very touched and grateful to his dedicated efforts.  Researcher Phung Nghi is the author of  Vietnamese Businesses, 100 Years of the Development of Vietnamese Language, Saigon in My Eyes…

 

     The program began with American and Vietnamese national anthem.  Then, the charming and popular US Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez was invited to hand Congressional Certificates to the Professors and Grand Masters who have made significant contributions to martial arts 50 years or more.

 

     Mrs. Sanchez told the audience, in simple English, that we are at war and tomorrow  “I have to be in Washington DC to vote at the US House of Representatives, therefore, I can not stay to eat.  I miss the food here very much.  The important thing for our community is to be strong mentally and physically.  Martial arts help us to be strong mentally and physically.”  She emphasized,  “Tomorrow, I will be in Washington, DC to put the names of Professors and Grand Masters who were glorified tonight into Congressional Record.” 

       

     The distinguished individuals who were awarded Congressional Certificates are as follows:

 

     Grand Master Van Binh, Taekwondo, from Houston, Texas.

     Professor Nguyen Long Van, former Taekwondo Association President in Viet Nam.

     Grand Master Nguyen Lam of Kienando, Professor of Martial Arts at California State University Northridge.

     Master Nguyen Khiem said Grand Master Pham Gia Cau of Hapkido had assigned him to receive the Certificate.  Mrs Sanchez commented,  “He’s happy.  Right?”  She said further that Vietnamese language is easy Ten toi la Loretta Sanchez  (My name is Loretta Sanchez).

     Master Ly Hoang Tung, President of GADWMA, told us that the Association is non-profit and established in the fall of 1993  to assist Grand Masters united so that together we can produce a young and strong generation.  Martial Arts Magazine published by GADWMA is a forum for every one to express opinions on martial arts. 

 

     Councilman Frank Fry, former Westminster Mayor,  handed Master Ly Hoang Tung an Awarded Certificate and praised the outstanding achievements of GADWMA.  MC Kim Yen said that behind each successful man there is an enthusiastic push of a woman.  On behalf of grateful Vietnamese, the organizers invited Mrs Frank Fry, to the stage to receive flowers.

 

     Nhat Truong – My Lan,  Huong Lan, Quoc Bien – Phuong Lan, Tuan Khai, and baby Dan Vi are famous singers who gave the audience exciting and cheerful songs. 

 

     Many martial arts students who had obtained the International Tournaments Prizes and excellent students who had 3.8 points average were handed plaques are:  Nguyen Ngoc Duy Mong, Tran Dai Nhan, Hoang Thanh Le, Hoang Le Oanh, Luong Binh, Thi Doan, Phuoc Huynh, Jennifer Ho Phuong, Ho Kien Cuong, Pham Van…
