“Bich Tram is right here,” Professor Nguyen Ha said, “Do you wish to talk to Ms. America International 2007?”  I surely do.  We talked at length.  Then we have e-mailed each other back and forth as well as more talking.

Bich Tram is featured this month in our website www.nguyenkinhdoanh.com under Ms. America International 2007.

She has been progressing rapidly since her arrival in the U.S. sixteen years ago.  Her father, ARVN Special Forces Colonel Ho Tam, was released after spending some time as a political prisoner in Vietnam.       The entire family, including her parents, brothers, sisters and her daughter came to the Land of Opportunities in 1991.

Eager to advance at the new settlement in Orange County, Bich Tram attended beauty school and enrolled at Golden West College.  It helped to further her experiences as Bich Tram had been a dance instructor and hairstylist in Vietnam.

Her diligence, beauty, charm, diplomacy, intelligence, tactfulness, intense concentration, articulation, and friendliness paid off.

The Mrs. Vietnam Pageant in January 2005 named her Queen of Beauty and Charm.  The initial success was the driving energy for her to pay a $600 entry fee to enter the national competition Mrs. Asia USA Pageant.  It was a fierce battle for women from all 57 countries in the Asian continent.

On Sunday October 23, 2005 at Glendale Royal Palace, some 500 well-dressed guests from all over the world witnessed Bich Tram won awards for best traditional costume, best evening gown, Mrs. Popularity and Crowned Mrs. Asia USA 2006.

The rewards for winning Mrs. Asia USA are enormous:  A crown, a fashioned trophy, $5,000 in prizes, free rides in the Glendale Christmas parade and  in a float during the Rose Parade in Pasadena, contracts with movie industries….

Stepping up, on Saturday January 27, 2007, Bich Tram was crowned Ms. America International 2007 at Verdugo Hills Country Club in Glendale, California.  The 10 finalists, chosen from 47 attractive ladies, competed in  evening gown, interviews, and community services.     Virgilia Villegas, Russell Gray and Mayor Dave Weaver were the Pageant judges.

Bich Tram was the first Asian American woman crowned Ms. America International 2007.

She is the President of Unity Exchange Club of Westminster.  It is a group of people working together for the common aims.  They are:  Making our communities better places to live through programs of services in Americanism, Community Services, Youth Activities, and its national project the Prevention of Child Abuse.

The Unity Exchange Club of Westminster is the newest of 56 clubs in California, Nevada, and Hawaii.

A community activist, philanthropist, and humanitarian, she has made significant contributions to our society.

First of all, after winning the title Mrs. Asia USA 2006, Bich Tram immediately gave the $5,000 in prizes to Save the Children and other charities.

Second, every month she donates free haircuts to the homeless and orphan children with a slogan Haicuts For Love.

Furthermore, Ms. America International 2007 has volunteered to be a translator, MC, singer at events and fundraiser throughout the United States for numerous charities and non-profit organizations.  Recently, President George Bush awarded Bich Tram the title Woman of the Year.

I ask Bich Tram how to keep her body in top shape and what are her goals for the society.

“I run 5-6 miles daily.”  Bich Tram replies softly.  “In addition, I would love to tell people about education, health, happiness and great opportunities that they can have in America, tempered with an obligation to give something back.”

On Sunday October 28, 2007, Bich Tram will host a fundraising for Unity Exchange Club of Westminster at Emerald Bay Restaurant, 5015 West Edinger in Santa Ana, CA 92702.  There will be live music with many famous singers from different bands.
